ABUJA, Nigeria — As parties prepare for the next governorship election in Anambra State draws near, the All Progressives Grand Alliance has vowed that the ruling All Progressives Congress’s cannot unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo in 2025.
The National Chairman of APGA, Sly Ezeokenwa, and his predecessor, Victor Oye, made this statement at APGA headquarters in Abuja.
Recall that the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, had expressed confidence in the party’s strategy, stating that the APC would use the same template that secured victories in Edo and Ondo to win elections in Anambra, Abia, and Enugu.
Ganduje emphasised the party’s determination to bring all remaining southeastern states under APC governance.
Ezeokenwa, however, dismissed Ganduje’s statements, describing the APC’s ambitions in Anambra as unrealistic.
He said that the APC lacked the grassroots structure and electoral presence needed to compete effectively in the Anambra state.
“I have said consistently that in Anambra State, we don’t have the APC. APC is not a political party that exists in the state. They do not have any structure on the ground. No elected official to date,” he said.
He stressed that Anambra remains an APGA stronghold and that Governor Soludo’s re-election in 2025 is inevitable.
“Ganduje is my friend, but his claim that all southeastern states will fall to the APC by 2027 is a joke. He’s not even sure of retaining Kano State, which is currently under the NNPP. How can he expect to win Anambra? Governor Soludo will serve his full eight years as anointed by God,” Oye added.
Oye also urged APGA’s National Working Committee members to remain united and focused, warning them against internal divisions that could weaken the party.
Responding to APGA’s remarks, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, debunked the statement as baseless
According to Duru, the APC has established a solid presence across all 21 local government areas and 326 wards in Anambra, with functional offices and fully constituted executive committees at every level.
“We thank the APGA chairman for his comments, but APC is the party to beat in Anambra. APGA is the other notable party, but we are building a stronger presence. Our National Chairman, Ganduje, will be in Anambra on Sunday to commission the new state headquarters of our party and meet political stakeholders ahead of the election,” Duru said.
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for November 8, 2025.
