Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has made announcements to disburse N5 billion intervention funds to aid the Nigerian economy.
Gov. Abiodun revealed that the intervention would cushion the effects of the current economic hardship on residents.
He made the announcement during an emergency briefing with newsmen at the Chief Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke Mosan Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, on Wednesday evening.
The intervention package includes grants for indigent students, food palliatives for vulnerable households, insurance cover for pregnant women, and the gradual offsetting of outstanding deductions.
Governor Abiodun detailed that each of the 27,600 students of Ogun indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country will receive a grant of N50,000. Additionally, N10,000 will be paid to each of the 100,000 pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools, with an additional donation of five exercise books to the 850,000 students in public schools.
Furthermore, the governor stated that garri, rice, and other food items will be distributed to 300,000 households in the state. Additionally, N500 million will be committed monthly towards offsetting outstanding and unremitted workers' deductions.
Governor Abiodun expressed empathy for the citizens facing economic challenges and assured them that the current situation is temporary. He also commended the efforts of the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government in navigating the nation's economic landscape.
He however highlighted the government's commitment to creating a brighter future for all citizens and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in overcoming current adversities. But further investigations are still going on, more details
