RIVERS, Nigeria - Residents of Gokana Local Government Area in Rivers State are currently filled with apprehension following the explosion of the Trans-Niger pipeline, which is used for crude oil exportation.
The blast disrupted oil operations in the vicinity and affected adjacent distribution pipelines from the oil-producing communities. The deafening explosion, as reported, led many residents to flee their homes and necessitated the rapid intervention of emergency responders to contain the fire that erupted afterward.
The incident, which took place late yesterday, engulfed a portion of the crucial crude oil export pipeline, raising fears about potential significant interruptions in supply to the Bonny Terminal.
A video sighted by Rocketparrot News on Tuesday shows the explosion's aftermath, with thick black smoke filling the air and fire rapidly spreading through the mangroves.
While no group has claimed responsibility and the cause of the explosion remains unknown, residents suspect that militants may be involved, pointing to the ongoing crises in the state.
