Ghana-Must-Go Bags Must Go Says Faan

POSTED ON December 4, 2023 •   Metro      BY Oluwakemi Ademuyiwa
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and airlines operating in Nigeria have jointly implemented a ban on the use of matted woven bags, commonly referred to as Ghana-Must-Go, by airport travelers. The prohibition was issued in a circular signed by the Manager of Airport Services, who conveyed the directive regarding the ban on the use of Ghana Must Go bags. The circular titled "Re: Prohibition of Usage Of Ghana Must Go" aims to enhance security measures within airport premises. Ghana Must Go bags, commonly used by a significant number of Nigerians and other African countries, particularly Ghana, are now subject to a ban enforced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration with the nation's airlines. FAAN highlighted that the use of these popular woven bags has resulted in substantial financial burdens for domestic airlines because of the damage caused on the conveyor belt systems at airports and significant breakdowns. This notice, issued to all Nigerian airlines, emphasized the necessity for conveying this information to both passengers and travel partners. The proactive measure aims to mitigate the financial strain and operational disruptions caused by the use of Ghana-Must-Go bags within airport facilities. Passengers are strongly encouraged to opt for alternatives such as cartons or similar materials for packing their belongings. Additionally, it is specified that luggage carried in these prohibited bags must be adequately wrapped before acceptance at airports. This directive aims to streamline security measures and enhance the efficiency of airport operations. Vanguard
