HBO has announced the start of production on its latest spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
Filming is started in Belfast, Ireland, with a talented cast and filmmakers prepared to bring George R.R. Martin's popular Dunk and Egg stories to life.
The series will include Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen. Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will play Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, respectively.
Sarah Adina Smith, noted for her work on Hanna and Lessons in Chemistry, will direct three of the first season's six episodes. Owen Harris will direct the remaining three episodes and act as an executive producer alongside Martin, Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, and Sarah Bradshaw.
The series is based on Martin's novella The Hedge Knight and promises to bring the same blend of political intrigue, daring exploits, and formidable opponents that captivated fans of the original series.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that the show is set to premiere in late 2025. This announcement has sparked widespread enthusiasm among fans, who eagerly await their return to the intricately detailed land of Westeros. The project attempts to expand the Game of Thrones universe by building on the success of House of the Dragon, which will be followed by a second season in mid-2024.
The new series not only promises to delve deeper into the history of Westeros but also to introduce viewers to new and compelling characters, enriching the already intricate tapestry of George R.R. Martin’s creation.
