G-20 Summit: Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu Departs Nigeria

POSTED ON September 3, 2023 •   World      BY Ugwuagwu John

President Bola Tinubu will travel to New Delhi, the capital of India, to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit, according to a statement by his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale.

It was gathered that Tinubu was specially invited to the summit by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to a statement, Tinubu will participate in and deliver keynote addresses at the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and the Nigeria-India Business Conference. Industrialists in the Indian private sector are also billed to join the executive roundtable, where senior government officials of both countries will be present. Ngelale said: “The President aims to leverage this platform to attract global capital and promote increased foreign direct investments in key labour-intensive sectors of Nigeria’s economy for job creation and revenue expansion. “Moreover, he will use this opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s attractiveness as an investment destination, specifically outlining his cross-sectoral reform plan as encapsulated by the Renewed Hope Agenda. Tinubu will make an attempt to discuss Nigeria’s perspective on the theme, ‘One Earth-One Family-One Future’, with a focus on the global unity required to address the challenges facing humanity and the planet, Vanguard reports. “While Nigeria’s membership of the G-20 is desirable, the government has embarked on wide-ranging consultations with a view to ascertaining the benefits and risks of membership. “Once consultations are concluded, the government will decide whether or not to apply to join as appropriate. The participation of President Tinubu at the G-20 Summit in India is, in part, in furtherance of this objective.” https://twitter.com/voiceofnigeria/status/1698599702969696659 Among Tinibu’s delegation to New Delhi are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite. Meanwhile, President Tinubu has reacted to the coup situation in Gabon after his counterpart Ali Bongo Ondimba was ousted by soldiers. Tinubu stated that there is continued contagious autocracy spreading across the continent, but vowed that he and other heads of state will defend democracy.
