Photo: Vanguard[/caption] They believe that the government's actions have caused massive suffering, impoverishment, and hunger. The strike is set to begin at zero hours on October 3, 2023. Workers are urged to withdraw their services, and affiliates and state councils are instructed to mobilize for street protests and rallies until the government responds positively to their demands. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, appealed to labour to shelve the strike, stating that the government was determined to address the issues, Premium Times reports. The government has already met one of labour's demands by releasing the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The minister requested more time to address the remaining issues. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, pleaded with the unions to halt the proposed strike. He expressed concerns that the strike would worsen the country's economic challenges and offered the House's mediation to facilitate an agreement between labour and the federal government. The removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, led to increased prices of goods and services and sparked protests and strikes by labour unions. https://twitter.com/channelstv/status/1706743336852238447
