RIVERS, Nigeria (NAN) - Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has reaffirmed his commitment to executing the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the political turmoil in the state.
Fubara made this promise on Tuesday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of Judges’ Quarters, a housing development completed by his administration.
He mentioned that the housing project was intended for judges who are originally from Rivers, whether by birth or marriage.
He emphasized that the welfare and interests of the state and its citizens are of utmost importance to his administration.
“It has been a challenging 16 months, but what truly matters is our state's interest, which must take precedence over personal gains. I want to make it clear: the Supreme Court has ruled, and my administration will fully adhere to this ruling. It is not about me; it is about the greater good of the state,” he stated.
The governor noted that the state has incurred significant losses while the matter was being resolved in court, expressing regret over the "waste of resources."
He added that these resources could have been utilized more beneficially for the welfare of the people of Rivers.
“Thank God for our current status. I will continue to assert that no cost is too high for the peace of our beloved state. Ultimately, it's all about our citizens,” he remarked.
Fubara pointed out that finalizing the facility demonstrates his administration's commitment to the welfare of judicial officers. “We inherited this project; our decision to complete it stemmed from reports and concerns from the Ministry of Justice and the judiciary,” he explained.
The state chief judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, praised Mr. Fubara for completing the project, calling it “another milestone and a significant achievement for the judiciary.”
