RIVERS, Nigeria - The political situation in Rivers State took a different direction on Sunday as Governor Siminalayi Fubara reached out to the Amaewhule-led members of the House of Assembly for a meeting.
This information was disclosed in a letter from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, which was shared with journalists in Port Harcourt.
The letter, which was addressed to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, was titled: “Meeting between the Governor of Rivers State and the Honorable Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
Danagogo mentioned that the meeting, set for tomorrow, was prompted by the governor’s receipt of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court ruling.
The letter indicated that discussions would center on facilitating a suitable venue for lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to convene, in addition to the presentation of the 2025 budget, among other topics.
The statement read: “I am writing to inform you, in line with His Excellency’s commitment noted in my letter dated March 5, that His Excellency has obtained the Supreme Court ruling and has therefore directed me to invite you and your colleagues— the honorable members of the Rivers State House of Assembly— to a meeting to discuss:
“Provision of an appropriate venue for the Assembly’s sessions, disbursement of all outstanding payments or allowances for the honorable members;
“Budget presentation and various matters. Any other matter(s) that may need discussion to determine the best path forward for the State.
“In light of the above, I respectfully invite the Honorable Speaker and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to meet with the governor.”
Per the statement, the meeting is scheduled for 10 am tomorrow at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“We appreciate your kindness, sir, and anticipate your presence to help chart a positive direction for the good people of Rivers State,” the letter concluded.
