Two members of the French national rugby team touring South America were arrested in Argentina on Monday after being accused of sexual assault, according to a justice official in Mendoza province.
Hugo Auradou, 20, and Oscar Jegou, 21, who played in France’s 28-13 Test victory over Argentina, were detained in Buenos Aires and will be taken to Mendoza for further investigation.
The alleged assault took place at the Diplomatic Hotel in Mendoza, where the team was staying for the Test match.
The French Rugby Federation president expressed concern for the victim and emphasized the importance of allowing the necessary investigation to take place.
The French sports minister also commented on the seriousness of the allegations.
Both players were part of the France team that won the Under-20 World Cup in South Africa last year.
