French officials have issued a recall for children's water bottles branded with the Olympics logo due to high levels of the endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A, just a week before the Paris Games are set to begin.
The reusable bottles, manufactured by Vilac, were found to have Bisphenol A levels that exceed regulations for products intended for contact with food, according to the government website Rappel Conso (Consumer Recall) as reported by AFP on Friday.
The white bottles with beige, blue, or red tops feature the Olympic rings, the Paris 2024 mascot, or the Olympic flame.
Consumers who have purchased these bottles are advised to return them to the place of purchase.
The bottles were available for sale in France from late August of last year until the beginning of June. Bisphenol A, previously used in the production of food containers, has been banned in France since 2015.
Classified as an endocrine disruptor by France's food safety agency Anses, it is thought to be associated with health issues such as breast cancer and infertility.
