LAGOS, Nigeria (NAN) - The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has said that security stakeholders have approved four checkpoints to curb the proliferation of checkpoints and extortion along the Seme border corridor.

The zonal public relations officer (ZPRO) CSP. Umma Ayuba made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

She said the stakeholders approved the checkpoints on Tuesday during a security meeting with the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone, Adegoke Fayoade, at the Command Headquarters in Lagos.

“AIG Fayoade, in charge of Zone 2 Command comprising Lagos and Ogun States, held a security meeting with relevant security stakeholders along the Seme Boarder Corridor.

“The meeting with the stakeholders was on the need to curb the proliferation of checkpoints and restore sanity along the Seme Boarder Corridor for economic growth along that route.

“The stakeholders present are from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Nigeria Police Force,” she said.

Ayuba said the stakeholders unanimously agreed that a joint task force be created.

“It was agreed that a joint task force be created, members of which are to be drawn from all security agencies to enforce compliance with the agreed traditional four checkpoints.

“The checkpoints namely Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point and Agbara Point.

“These points will be mounted by all security agencies to ensure watertight security along the border ways to foster synergy in fighting crime and give room for economic growth along the axis,” the police spokesperson said.

The ZPRO urged members of the public to call 07088158606 and 09062011772 for complaints.
