The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced that the inaugural FIFA Women's Club World Cup will take place in January and February 2026.
This announcement was made during the 74th FIFA Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The first edition of the tournament will feature 16 teams, although FIFA has yet to disclose the qualification criteria or the venue for the competition.
The Women's Club World Cup is scheduled to be held every four years, mirroring the frequency of the men's tournament.
FIFA also revealed plans for an additional women's club competition in non-Women's Club World Cup years, starting from 2027.
This initiative aims to provide more playing opportunities for women's clubs on an annual basis and further the global development of women's football.
These announcements follow FIFA's earlier decision to expand the men's Club World Cup to a 32-team competition, set to debut in the US in 2025.
The qualification process for this expanded tournament will consider teams' consistent performance in their respective continental championships over four years.
Furthermore, FIFA introduced a new annual international club competition called the Intercontinental Cup, featuring a playoff between champions from various continents, culminating in a final against the UEFA Champions League winner.
