ABAKALIKIA, Nigeria (NAN) - The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the South East region, Chioma Nweze, announced over the weekend that the federal government is poised to launch community empowerment initiatives in the Southeast zone.
The presidential aide said the initiative, dubbed 'Launching Skill-Up S-East through Fashion Training and Health Initiative', is aimed at empowering communities within Nigeria's South East region.
She disclosed this information in a statement given in Abakaliki, highlighting that the event is scheduled for March 8, 2025, at the Vocational Centre in Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State.
Nweze elaborated that one component of the initiative, the Health Initiative, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to promote healthy communities in the Southeast.
This initiative will provide free cancer screenings for a duration of six months, complimentary eye tests and glasses for the first 200 patients, and free dialysis for a year.
She noted that the health programme will be conducted in collaboration with the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences and the Ebonyi State Government.
she mentioned that the second initiative, Unveiling Fashion Potentials, comprises a four-month free tailoring training programme intended to discover and nurture fashion talent within Igbo Land. Participants will be provided with free accommodation throughout the training and will receive modern tailoring equipment upon completion.
“I urge regional leaders to collaborate and ensure these esteemed events fulfill their purpose, which is to uncover and cultivate hidden talents in the region,” she emphasized.
