LAGOS, Nigeria - The Federal Government has granted a new concession to Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) Limited for the development of a fresh platform, the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System (BUCMS), in response to the challenges faced with earlier customs management systems.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, made this announcement on Monday during the prelaunch of the “B’Odogwu” trade facilitation tool at the Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports in Lagos, following its trial phase at the PTML Command earlier this year.
During a stakeholders' meeting at Apapa Command, the comptroller general highlighted that this deployment represents a prelaunch phase rather than a full-scale implementation, especially considering the size of the Apapa Command.
Adeniyi emphasized that this new system signifies a departure from previous methods, replacing the outdated NICIS system with a stronger and more local solution.
He clarified that B’Odogwu, a term stemming from African and Nigerian roots, translates to “Border” and “Odogwu,” denoting strength and leadership.
While recognizing the difficulties faced during the PTML pilot phase, he assured stakeholders that any concerns would be collectively resolved.
