Fg To Include Families Of Injured, Fallen Soldiers In Social Register

POSTED ON December 1, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Segun Adewole •   VIEWS 119
In a significant move to address the needs of the families of wounded and fallen soldiers, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to include them in the national social register and expand its poverty alleviation programs. This development was revealed during a high-level meeting held in Abuja on Monday, where the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, engaged with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa. Dr. Betta Edu underscored the importance of providing support to the families of deceased soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation. She was quoted by NAN as saying, ”We want to expand our social register to accommodate military personnel that have either been wounded or affected by war even soldiers that left their families behind. “We need this data from the military so that we can have them captured under the social register,” she said. The minister said she was at the defence headquarters to solicit the support of the Nigerian military to tackle humanitarian crises across the country. “Alleviating humanitarian crises and poverty is the top most of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Related News ”Our preference is to discuss humanitarian crises across the nation and the need to collaborate with the military to prevent more persons coming under the humanitarian bracket. ”We also should be able to reach out effectively to those who are affected by humanitarian crises wherever they are. ”So that our humanitarian workers should be able to reach the people wherever they are with the support of the military,” she said. Responding to this initiative, the Chief of Defence Staff assured the minister of the unwavering dedication of the Nigerian military in supporting her ministry's mandate. He emphasized the crucial link between military operations and humanitarian aid, highlighting that the success of any organization directly contributes to enhancing military efforts. Gen. Musa expressed optimism regarding the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the Nigerian military, anticipating that this partnership would yield positive outcomes for the families affected by the sacrifices of soldiers. This promising development signals a new chapter in the government's commitment to providing comprehensive support to the families of wounded and fallen soldiers, further strengthening the nation's social safety net and poverty alleviation initiatives.
