The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, has announced a $5.5 billion investment from the private sector to support Nigeria’s health sector.
The minister further stated that Nigeria has established a partnership with Empower School of Health in Geneva to set up Africa’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturing training institute, Empower Academy Nigeria, which aims to train 2,000 Nigerian professionals each year.
This announcement was made on his X handle on Sunday, and he highlighted that the investment was secured under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Pate mentioned that the Academy would help fill a crucial gap, noting a shortage of between 5,000 to 7,000 skilled professionals in critical areas such as advanced manufacturing, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance.
“Thanks to the innovative leadership of H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Nigeria has launched 22 new large-scale health sector manufacturing projects backed by $5.5 billion in private sector investment.
As these new opportunities emerge, our commitment to developing a top-tier pharmaceutical manufacturing workforce domestically has intensified.
“In light of Nigeria recently obtaining €1 billion from the European Investment Bank and an extra $1 billion from AfreximBank to support health sector value chain localization, we have inked an agreement with Empower School of Health, Geneva, which will lead to the establishment of Empower Academy Nigeria, Africa's premier pharmaceutical manufacturing training institute.
