The Egbema Power Plant in Imo State, with a capacity of 378.3 megawatts, is currently 70 percent completed, and the Federal Government has pledged to expedite its construction.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressed this commitment during a recent inspection visit, commending Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma for his collaboration with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to ensure the timely completion of the power projects in the state.
Accompanied by NDPHC Managing Director Chiedu Ugbo, the minister also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for signing the 2023 Electricity Act, enabling states to participate in the electricity sector.
Adelabu emphasized that the Egbema power plant's completion, along with associated transmission projects, will enhance electricity supply not only in Imo State but also in neighboring areas.
In his speech, Uzodinma promised to work together with the NDPHC to ensure the Egbema Power Plant is completed, leading to an improvement in electricity supply in the State. He emphasized that this collaboration will result in the successful completion of the 378.3MW Egbema Power Plant, the 330/33KV switchyard, the Omoku-Egbema-Owerri-Alaoji 330KV DC transmission lines projects, and the Owerri transmission substation expansion project. These projects are currently at different stages of completion, with the power plant at 70 per cent. The partnership between the Imo State Government and NDPHC is aimed at boosting electricity supply and powering homes and businesses in Imo State through the successful completion of the Egbema Power Plant and its associated transmission infrastructure, according to a statement by Adelabu’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, released on Sunday.
