KEBBI, Nigeria - The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s steadfast dedication to guaranteeing that all Nigerian citizens have unrestricted access to plentiful and nutritious food.
Kyari made this statement at the kickoff of the 2025 dry season farming and the distribution of Ramadan palliatives to the people of Kebbi, led by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
“President Tinubu has consistently fostered a favorable environment and provided support to farmers to boost production, bringing us closer to achieving food security, which is already within reach. The federal government will keep collaborating with states and local government councils to enhance prosperity through agricultural growth.
“I applaud the initiative of our commendable Kebbi Governor, Nasir Idris, for prioritizing the development of the agricultural sector, which has experienced record harvests and a drop in food prices. The focus on dry season farming is a significant strategy for enhancing food security,” the minister stated.
Kyari expressed his satisfaction with the current administration's provision of thousands of water pumping machines, sprayers, power tillers, and large quantities of herbicides, pesticides, and organic fertilizers.
While launching the distribution initiative, Idris highlighted that the government recognizes the challenges farmers face during dry season farming, prompting his administration to supply necessary agricultural inputs to alleviate the difficulties in farming.
Regarding Ramadan palliatives, Idris reported that all segments of society had been taken into account for distribution. Earlier, the state government secretary, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, warned that security personnel had been authorized to detain anyone found selling the agricultural supplies provided to them.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Ma’azu, remarked that Kebbi had initiated its dry season farming efforts, which were sustained and enhanced during the terms of former Governors Adamu Aleiro, Sa’idu Dakingari, and Atiku Bagudu, respectively.
“Kebbi is undoubtedly a center for agriculture and an agriculturally vibrant landscape in the country, maintaining and intensifying the initiative under the leadership of Governor Idris,” he concluded.
