The federal and Ogun state governments have reiterated their dedication to simplifying the business environment in the country.
This was highlighted during the unveiling of the Springfield Agro Limited Crops Protection Chemical Plant in Sagamu.
This notable investment, valued at $12 million, showcases the government's efforts to foster a favorable atmosphere for business growth.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima, represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Sabi Abdullahi, stressed the necessity of enhancing industrial capacity throughout the value chain to ensure food security in Nigeria.
He remarked, “the assurance of food security in Nigeria depends on our capacity to expand industrial capabilities across the value chain.”
Shettima also mentioned, “we cannot attain peace unless the robust initiatives we implement as a government are supported by the ambition and dedication of the private sector.” He indicated that the inauguration of the agrochemical plant aligns with the government's strategy to tackle hunger and improve national food security.
Ogun Governor, Adedapo Abiodun, commended the Kewalram Chenrai Group for their dedication to promoting agriculture, healthcare, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
He was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
He stated, “this event confirms Ogun’s advancement in establishing a favorable environment for industries to thrive.
It also reflects the Kewalram Group's enduring commitment to promoting agriculture, healthcare, and sustainable development in Nigeria.”
The governor emphasized that agriculture is a vital element of the state’s economic development plan. “By enhancing inputs, mechanization, and extension services, our government has positioned our state to boost agricultural productivity, lower the cost of staple foods, and achieve food security,” he noted.
He added that the inclusion of a CSR hospital in the project would deliver quality healthcare services to the local community, positively impacting millions of lives.
Abiodun assured investors that the government would persist in providing the essential infrastructure, policies, and incentives to stimulate investments that promote economic growth.
“We will continue to offer the infrastructure, policies, and incentives necessary to encourage investments like this. Such initiatives will not only stimulate economic growth but also foster a more inclusive and equitable society for the residents of Ogun and other stakeholders,” he stated.
“This dual-purpose event signifies the onset of new opportunities, ranging from mental health care to improved livelihoods. This project exemplifies what can be accomplished when the private and public sectors collaborate for growth,” he added.
The success of Springfield in Nigeria has motivated the Kewalram Chenrai Group to extend its reach to other African nations.
The agrochemical plant will manufacture herbicides and insecticides, along with an integrated bottle manufacturing unit, creating additional job opportunities, both direct and indirect, for approximately 300 to 500 individuals.
Chairman of the Kewalram Chenrai Group, Narain Chanrai, remarked, “the success of Springfield in Nigeria has inspired us to expand to other African countries.”
He also noted, “the factory will generate additional employment, both direct and indirect, for about 300 to 500 people. As the government and private sector collaborate for growth, this project stands as a brilliant example of what can be achieved through partnership and commitment to development.”
