Following the acute hunger in the country and the surge in the prices of goods and services, the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government have entered into a partnership to enhance food security.
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, made this known when she met with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and presented the proposal of the Federal Government on the provision of machines that are useful in the processing of cassava into garri flour.
She explained that the Federal Government had introduced similar partnerships in other states, and her team was in Lagos to do the same.
According to her, the Federal Government’s drive in the agriculture sector aims to carry women along with about “30 per cent and 70 per cent representation for women and men”, respectively.
In his remarks, Sanwo-Olu pledged the support of Lagos for the initiative.
He said, “We have a huge farm that we operate. We see the synergy in what you’re doing. The food security you want to achieve, we will help you in achieving it. We’re willing to derive the benefits from what the Federal Government is bringing to us.”
Sanwo-Olu expressed the state's willingness to participate in initiative that would foster growth and development and create employment opportunities for residents.
