The Federal Government has announced the deployment of reinforced concrete technology on the long-delayed East-West road in the South-south region of Nigeria.
This decision follows threats of protests from the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People and former agitators in the Niger Delta due to the uncompleted section of the road.
In a statement in Abuja, the government emphasized its commitment to preventing further failures on the road by using reinforced concrete technology to address pavement issues and years of neglect.
MOSOP, through its Public Relations Officer, Imeabe Saviour, expressed concern over the non-completion of the road, citing a series of accidents and loss of lives.
The group highlighted the deteriorating state of the East-West road in the Ogoni area despite substantial revenue generated, labeling it a nightmare for travelers and a death trap for the Ogoni people.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, visited various sections of the road and praised the contractors' commitment to intervention, particularly on the Kaiama-Ahoada section and kilometer 15 section 3A.
He assured MOSOP that a permanent solution was underway, involving raising the road above flood levels and using 12 inches of reinforced concrete to address the issues.
