ABUJA- The federal government has begun building a new divisional police headquarters and six residential quarters for rank-and-file officers in Mpape, a neighborhood in Abuja's Bwari Area Council.
The project is part of continuing changes aiming at altering the policing landscape through inclusivity and new technology.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the smart police station, which Yusuf Argungu, the ministry's acting Permanent Secretary attended.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Bolaji Kazeem, Deputy Director, of the Information & Public Relations Unit of the ministry, the minister emphasized the project's relevance in resolving security concerns in Mpape and its environs.
He noted that the project would create a safer environment for residents and businesses.
“The presence of this divisional headquarters of the police in this location will protect citizens commuting daily for their activities from the dangers of kidnapping, one-chance operations, and robbery, as well as other related crimes affecting people in the city,” the minister stated.
Gaidam reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a world-class, technology-driven institution.
“The Federal Government is committed to the emergence of a world-class police force that is inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based. This force will remain alive to its constitutional responsibilities and committed to implementing comprehensive reforms to revolutionize the policing landscape by fostering inclusivity, community engagement, intelligence-driven operations, and technological integration,” the statement added.
The District Head of Mpape, Alhaji Adamu Diga, thanked the ministry, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and the Nigeria Police Force for upgrading the current Mpape Police Post to a Divisional Headquarters. He added that the development would considerably improve efficiency and service delivery to the district's residents.
