The Federal Ministry of Works has implemented advanced engineering measures, such as using geotextiles and rock layering, to address an oceanic threat to the under-construction Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
During a site visit to various road and bridge projects in Lagos State on Monday, Minister of Works, Sen.
Dave Umahi, provided reassurances regarding the situation. He noted that the ocean nearly reached the roadway at Kilometre 14.6, presenting a risk to the highway development.
Umahi mentioned that the ministry had put advanced engineering methods in place to reinforce that part of the highway.
He added, “This unforeseen work has impacted the project’s contingency fund.”
He cautioned that not resolving this issue could adversely affect the entire project.
The minister praised the project contractor and supervisors for their quick action that prevented ocean encroachment from compromising the highway.
