Traffic detours are anticipated in the Apapa area as the Federal Government initiates a three-week closure of the Lagos Marine Bridge for essential rehabilitation work aimed at restoring its safety and functionality.
The state government has announced that these emergency repairs will take place over three weeks, starting from Sunday, May 18, to Sunday, June 8, 2025.
The repairs will occur in two phases to maintain the bridge’s operational capacity.
Phase 1 will focus on the Marine Bridge's foot on Lawani Oguntayo Road towards Apapa and Costain, while Phase 2 will address the Ijora Badia and the Lilypond Access Ramp towards Apapa.
Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, confirmed this on Friday, stating that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed on alternative routes to reduce disruption during the repairs.
Osiyemi urged drivers to remain patient during the partial closure of the bridge, emphasizing that the traffic management plan is designed to facilitate the maintenance of the bridge’s expansion joints.
He noted, “During the maintenance period, motorists coming from Ijora Olopa towards Apapa should utilize the Ijora Causeway access ramp near Omni Retail Company to continue their journeys.
Those traveling to Apapa from Costain will be redirected into a contraflow on the lane leading to Costain.
From June 2 to June 8, 2025, motorists from Ijora Olopa heading to Apapa will be routed through the Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail Company into Lilypond Access Road to reach their destinations. The bridge will fully reopen to traffic on Monday, June 9, 2025.”
