Federal Prosecutors File Tax Charges Against Hunter Biden

In a second criminal case against the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, federal prosecutors have filed tax charges against Hunter Biden. The nine-count indictment alleges that he schemed to evade over $1.4 million in federal taxes from 2016 to 2019. The charges include three felonies and six misdemeanors, ranging from failure to file and pay taxes to false tax return and evasion of assessment. Hunter Biden, already facing federal firearm charges, pleaded not guilty to those charges in September. The White House has not issued a comment on the new tax charges. These developments coincide with congressional Republicans focusing on Hunter Biden's business dealings in an impeachment inquiry into President Biden as he seeks re-election next year. If convicted in the tax case, Hunter Biden could potentially face up to 17 years in prison.
