In an effort to put an end to the continuing organized labor strike across the country, the Federal Government has invited the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to a meeting this afternoon.
Vanguard, meanwhile, learned that the National Security Adviser's (NSA) office had called the meeting.
In response to the beating of NLC President Joe Ajaero and others in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1, the NLC and TUC announced an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday. In the state, there were outstanding labor disputes as well.
On November 7, they decided that if their demands were not met, they would call for a nationwide strike by Tuesday, November 14.
The NLC President, other labor leaders, and journalists were brutalized, but there were additional grievances that led to the walkout.
These consist of unpaid gratuities, unjustly labeling 11,000 workers as ghost employees, unpaid wage arrears, and failure to comply with the N30,000 Minimum Wage Act.
Recall that, together with other labor leaders, alleged state agents, and security personnel, they had arrived at Ajaero.
The perpetrators destroyed their cars, wounding the occupants and taking cell phones, cash, and ATM cards, among other goods.
