The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman named Promise Eze from a suspected ritualist at a hotel located in the Wuse area of Abuja.
Reports indicate that the victim and the suspect checked into the hotel weeks after meeting online, intending to spend time together, during which the incident occurred.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the rescue operation on Sunday, noting that the police had been actively searching for the suspect, who allegedly deceived the victim into coming to the hotel.
According to the statement, the incident took place on January 31, 2025, when officers responded to a distress signal from the hotel staff. Upon their arrival, they discovered Eze bound to a small chair with her mouth sealed with plaster.
It was reported that the police quickly released the victim and rushed her, unconscious and distressed, to Wuse District Hospital, where she eventually regained consciousness. Investigations revealed that the victim had checked into the hotel a day prior with a man claiming to be Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State.
However, she later disclosed that she had met the man online, where he used the alias Michael Prince and pretended to be an employee of an oil company from Delta State.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, condemned the attack and urged the community, especially young women, to remain vigilant when interacting with individuals they do not know well.
He assured the public of the police's dedication to locating the suspect and ensuring justice. The Commissioner encouraged anyone with pertinent information that could aid in the suspect’s apprehension to contact the police immediately.
