The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has initiated confidence-building visits to area councils, declaring an intensified crackdown on bandits by security agencies.
The minister's proactive response follows a series of kidnappings and killings perpetrated by bandits in the region. During his visit to Bwari town, the headquarters of Bwari Area Council, Wike conducted a town hall meeting with residents, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders, including security, defense, and intelligence personnel.
Expressing unwavering determination, Wike stated, "Enough is enough," emphasizing that individuals collaborating with bandits would no longer find refuge among law-abiding citizens. He outlined the government's commitment to prioritizing security and highlighted a recent high-level security meeting summoned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in response to the escalating attacks, particularly in Bwari.
"We will do everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again," asserted Wike, addressing the bandits directly. He announced the president's approval to provide all necessary resources to the security agencies, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle the menace.
With a focus on community involvement, Wike urged citizens to play an active role by providing crucial information to security agencies. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, he stated, "Without information, there is nothing we can do, and that is where you come in."
As the minister takes a hands-on approach to combat banditry, the residents of the FCT can expect increased action from security agencies in the coming days. Wike emphasized that the government's commitment to protecting lives and property is non-negotiable, signaling a departure from business as usual.
