The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has revealed that it has taken action against three foreign steel companies in Ogun State for engaging in fraudulent practices such as falsification, misleading acts, and deception.
This is in line with the commission's primary responsibility to protect and safeguard Nigerian consumers.
During a monitoring and enforcement exercise in the outskirts of Ikorodu, Ogijo, and Sagamu in Ogun State, Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, stated that the commission acted promptly based on intelligence and surveillance reports.
He said “These reports indicated that the three foreign steel companies were shortchanging consumers by delivering steel products that did not meet the original sizes ordered.
The three foreign steel companies identified are African Foundries located at Km 45 Shagamu Ikorodu Expressway, Ogijo, Monarch Steel Mill Limited in Sagamu, and Kam Steel Integrated Company in Sagamu”.
Abdullahi emphasized the need to address these unfair market practices, citing the potential safety risks posed by receiving products that do not meet the specified standards. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of the population and expressed the commission's commitment to this goal.
