The family of Osas Azenabor, who was allegedly arrested by police on November 1, 2024, in the Mile 12 area of Lagos State, has approached the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, requesting an investigation into his disappearance.
The family claims that Osas was taken to the Ketu Police Station and has not returned home since then.
The family stated that the 40-year-old Osas was among those arrested during a police raid in the Mile 12 area.
His father, Francis Azenabor, informed journalist that Osas's whereabouts have been unknown following his arrest, which led the family to petition the police commissioner.
Rescue operations are ongoing on Day 2 of the building collapse at Ojodu-Berger.
In a petition submitted by their legal representative, Saidi Sanni, the family called for a thorough investigation into Osas’s situation.
The family urged the police commissioner to facilitate Osas’s release and to investigate the reasons for his extended detention.
The petition stated, “We feel compelled to directly address you regarding this critical matter in light of the arbitrary arrest and disappearance of our client by officers assigned to Ketu Divisional Police Station on November 1, 2024.”
“To clarify, our client’s family has visited the Ketu Divisional Police Station numerous times, only to face humiliation or harassment. I personally witnessed an incident where the police failed to provide any explanation for what occurred after our client’s arrest.
Instead, we were mistreated, and our client’s younger brother was physically assaulted during the process.” “We earnestly request that you direct the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ketu on November 1, 2024, along with all officers attached to the division, to release our client without delay, and that an investigative inquiry be initiated to determine the reasons for and the circumstances of his prolonged detention since November 1, 2024.”
