A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,Ibrahim Lamorde, has reportedly passed away at the age of 61 while in Egypt.
According to online publication Premium Times, Lamorde was in Egypt for medical treatment when he died on Sunday.
However, the news has not been independently confirmed by Rocketparrot News as of now, as comments from Lamorde's family and the EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, could not be obtained on Sunday morning.
Lamorde, who was born on December 20, 1962, joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.
He held the position of chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015 during his time as a police officer.
As stated on the EFCC’s website, Lamorde served as the third executive chairman of the Commission. He assumed the role in an acting capacity on November 3, 2011, after former President Goodluck Jonathan removed Farida Waziri from the position.
On February 15, 2012, he was officially approved by the Senate as the third permanent chairman of the commission.
