Quincy Promes, a former international for the Netherlands National team, received an 18-month prison term for stabbing his cousin.
The Russian club Spartak Moscow's 31-year-old attacker was detained in December 2020 in connection with the incident that took place in July of that year.
According to ESPN, the Dutch court determined that Promes' assault allegations were valid but that there was no attempted murder or manslaughter.
He must provide the victim compensation in the amount of €7,000 [£5,973].
Additionally, Promes is facing charges in the Netherlands for allegedly participating in cocaine trafficking.
In two shipments in 2020, he is suspected of transporting 1,360 kg of cocaine illegally to Belgium or the Netherlands.
Even though Promes, rejected the accusations, the court decided that there was sufficient proof from two eyewitnesses and overheard phone conversations to impose a jail sentence.
Promes got into an altercation about stolen jewelry, which led to the stabbing, which happened to the leg during a family gathering at a warehouse in Abcoude.
At the time, he was playing for Ajax in the Netherlands, but in February 2021, he transferred to Spartak.
Promes, who is now in Russia, was criticized by the judge for failing to appear in court to present his defense or show any regret.
Had he done so, his sentence would have been reduced by six months. The conviction is appealable by Promes.
Promes' whereabouts makes it unclear if he will spend his prison term in the Netherlands or in Russia.
Extradition requests may only be made if Promes' appeal attempts are unsuccessful, according to NOS, as there is no extradition agreement between Russia and the Netherlands.
Promes would be detained if he entered Europe or any nation that has an extradition agreement with the Netherlands due to the drug trafficking charges, though.
The forward, who was born in Amsterdam, appeared 50 times for the Netherlands National team and scored seven goals.
