Eu Condemns Russian Attack On Ukraine Market

POSTED ON December 1, 2023 •   World      BY Segun Adewole
The European Union has issued a scathing condemnation on Wednesday regarding a devastating missile attack by Russia on a market in east Ukraine. The attack, which claimed the lives of at least 16 people, including a child, and left dozens more injured, has been described as "heinous and barbaric" by EU officials. The EU spokesperson expressed grave concern over Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine's civilian population, stating, "Russia continues terrorizing Ukraine's civilian population. Today's heinous and barbaric missile attack on a market area in Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region killed at least 16 people, including a child, and injured dozens of others." This assault is just the latest in a series of escalations witnessed over recent months, marked by missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, with a particularly alarming focus on civilian targets. Shockingly, over the past two weeks alone, more than 410 civilians have been killed or wounded in such attacks, according to the EU spokesperson. Ukrainian authorities, not mincing words, assert that at least 17 individuals tragically lost their lives in the merciless assault on the east Ukraine market. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went a step further by characterizing the attack as a deliberate act, casting a somber shadow over the situation. The town of Kostiantynivka, home to nearly 70,000 residents, bore the brunt of the projectile onslaught. This attack stands out as one of the deadliest in recent weeks, drawing worldwide attention to the escalating violence in the region. The EU, in its strongly worded statement, unequivocally stated, "Intentional attacks against civilians are war crimes. All commanders, perpetrators, and accomplices of these atrocities will be held to account." As international pressure mounts, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, while emphasizing the importance of accountability for those responsible for the loss of innocent lives.
