In a bid to enhance the enrollment of Nigeria's to the Health Insurance scheme, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ultimate Health HMO, Lekan Ewenla, has called on the Federal Government to enforce stricter compliance with the National Health Insurance law.
He spoke on the sidelines of the one-year memorial service in honour of his wife, Mrs Rashidat Ewenla in Lagos.
Ewenla said without a robust enforcement of the law to bring more Nigerians into the sector, the goal of the universe health coverage would remain unachievable.
He underscored the need for the government to play a more active role in ensuring that both employers and individuals comply with existing health insurance policies.
According to him, “The first law that was passed for the introduction of health insurance in this country was for the formal sector. The Federal government started the scheme, the states are just coming onboard gradually to comply with that law.
“What is being done by the Federal government is to now unpack the aspect of the law to drive compliance in particular, but unfortunately, Nigerians don’t respect our laws. So, if there is no operational framework that will drive compliance, we are just wasting our time,” Ewenla said.
