The Department of State Services (DSS) has charged suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to court.
DSS made this decision in compliance with an Abuja High Court order on Wednesday, ordering the special force unit to either release or charge Emefiele to court within one week.
The suspended CBN Governor was arrested by the DSS on June 2023 on suspicion of criminal infractions, but he was released after obtaining a restraining order from an FCT High Court.
However, the DSS re-arrested him in July 2023 on the strength of suspected fresh criminal infractions, after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement on Thursday night, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said Emefiele had been charged to court "in compliance with the Order."
The statement said the DSS "assures the public of professionalism, justice and fairness in handling this matter and indeed the discharge of its duties within the confines of the law."
