ABUJA,Nigeria - Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 133 individuals in Abuja during a raid on a ponzi scheme academy called Q University, also referred to as Q-Net.
The operation, which occurred on Monday, took place at the Compensation Layout in Gwagwalada, within the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a statement from the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the commission acted based on intelligence reports regarding the academy, which purportedly recruits young Nigerians into a fraudulent scheme masquerading as a wealth-building program.
Oyewale elaborated on the operations of Q-Net, stating that Q University misled individuals by presenting a training program labeled “Special Training for New Generation Billionaire.”
He noted that participants were manipulated into thinking they would attain billionaire status upon completion.
He mentioned that in order to enroll, individuals were required to purchase an Independent Representative Application Form and were motivated with catchy slogans like “I’m a Champion,” “I’m Unstoppable,” and “I’m Infinity.”
He elaborated, “The suspects are enrolled in a training referred to as: “Special Training for New Generation Billionaire” where they are brainwashed to believe they would become billionaires upon graduation.
They accessed the training by obtaining a form known as the “Independent Representative Application Form,” accompanied by promotional phrases such as: “I’m a Champion,” “I’m Unstoppable,” and “I’m Infinity,” among others.”
Oyewale indicated that the anti-graft agency carried out the raid in partnership with the 176 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army, noting that items seized from the suspects included mobile phones, computers, and various electronic devices.
