The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has ordered a quick probe into alleged bribery charges made against several commission's officers by Idris Okuneye (a.k.a. Bobrisky) in a viral tape uploaded by social activist Very Dark Man.
In the clip, Bobrisky allegedly told an unidentified person over the phone that he paid some nameless commission officials N15,000,000 (N15m) to dismiss money laundering allegations against him.
Recall that the Commission filed six allegations against Bobrisky in April, four of which were for Naira misuse and two for money laundering.
When he was arraigned in court, the money laundering allegations were dismissed, and he was charged with four counts of Naira abuse.
He was sentenced to six months in prison on April 12 after pleading guilty to the charges.
In the alleged audio conversation, Bobrisky also claimed that he was placed in a private apartment near the correctional facility after his Godfather called the head of the Nigeria Prisons Service and asked him not to enter the correctional facility as directed by the court that convicted him.
In a quick response to the charges against the EFCC operatives, the Commission's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement that the Commission's boss had formed a team of investigators to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
Oyewale said, ‘’To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery.
"The EFCC wishes to assure the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated and the result of the findings will be made public accordingly. The Commission is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism and collaboration at all times.''
