The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), on Thursday, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible election in Edo State.
They also called on the people of the state to come out and vote for their respective parties and candidates in the September 21 governorship election.
A statement by the Deputy Director General, Media and Publicity of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, Rev. Olu Martins, lauded former President, Goodluck Jonathan who was on an official visit to the state for his role in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General of the Council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, urged the people to vote for Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie so that they could continue the work Governor Godwin Obaseki started in the state.
On his part, Governor Obaseki in a statement charged voters to come out en masse to participate in the governorship election and to vote wisely so as to sustain the state’s developmental trajectory.
In the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, the governor urged Edo people to vote wisely, ensuring they vote for the candidate who presents the most credible, pragmatic, intelligible and coherent pathway to societal development.
He said: “As we proceed to the polls in September, it is necessary to be circumspect. We have made tremendous progress in the state in the last eight years.
“It is now only reasonable to ensure that the baton is passed to the candidate who ensures the sustainability of the projects, initiatives and development trajectory that we have set in the state. So, I urge you all to come out en masse and vote for the most credible, accessible and competent candidate, who has a track record of excellence.”
The Candidate of the ADC, Derek Izedonmwen, in a statement said: “May we continue to thrive under the banner of democracy to foster good governance."
On her part, the governorship candidate of the PRP, Patience Ndidi, said, “In Edo State, we face numerous challenges that require bold and visionary leadership.
“From the need for improved healthcare and education systems to the imperative of creating sustainable economic opportunities for our youth, the tasks before us are daunting but not insurmountable.
“The PRP is committed to addressing these issues head-on with a clear and actionable plan that prioritizes the well being of all Edo citizens.”
