The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress for Edo State, Derek Izedonwen, has vowed to replicate the legacy of the former Governor Ambrose Alli, if he wins the September 21 governorship poll.
He spoke while receiving his certificate of return and the ADC flag in Abuja.
Ambrose Alli administration birth lot of reforms which included the abolition of service charges for drugs at state-owned hospitals and the massive construction of roads to open up rural areas.
Izedonmwen said he sees Alli as a mentor and political role model.
He said, “If you look back at the last 50 years, we have never really had what I can call a people’s government. The last people’s government we had in the state was Prof. Ambrose Ali. He was my hero. These are the people I want to emulate.
“You have to credit Ambrose Alli for all the big infrastructure we see in Benin City today, the like of Ring Road, University of Benin, flour mill, Ogbe Stadium and the colleges of education that Ambrose Ali built. Some other facilities are now in private hands. I can go on and on. But all that has stopped. Today, there is arrested development in Edo State. These are things I am out to correct and ensure we continue from where Prof Ambrose Ali stopped.”
The ADC candidate ruled out the threat of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party, which he described as a remnant of the old guards.
The National Chairman of the ADC, Ralph Nwosu, said the party was determined to rid Edo State of bad governance by presenting a fresh candidate who shares the same ideology as the party.
