The Department of State Services (DSS) has been ordered to release Suspended Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Another High Court in Abuja gave the ruling, nullifying the arrest, detention, and interrogation of Emefiele. This ruling comes shortly after a related judgment was delivered by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) court in Abuja.
RocketParrot reported that Justice Hamza Muazu in Abuja on Thursday ordered the DSS to release or charge the embittered CBN Governor to court within seven days.
Succumbing to the court ruling, DSS through its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya said in a series of tweets that Emefiele had been charged to court.
Justice Bello Kawu of another High Court while delivering judgement on Emefeile's detention declared that the actions taken against him by the DSS were in violation of the existing judgment and orders issued by Justice M. A. Hassan.
Emefiele, represented by his counsel Peter Abang, had requested the court to declare the arrest and detention of the ex-CBN Governor illegal and nullify them based on the judgment handed down by another court on December 29, 2022.
In addition to nullifying any warrant of arrest obtained by the respondents, particularly the DSS, in connection with allegations of terrorism financing, fraudulent practices, money laundering, and threats to national security, Justice Kawu also issued an order restraining the respondents from arresting, detaining, or interfering with Emefiele's personal liberty and freedom of movement.
The court further directed the respondents, particularly the DSS, to immediately release Emefiele from any arrest or detention. This injunction ensures that Emefiele's rights and freedoms are protected while resolving the legal issues surrounding his case.
