KADUNA, Nigeria - Kaduna Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Oluwatosin Ajayi as the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), in the wake of a raid on a terrorist hideout by DSS operatives that resulted in the arrest of 54 suspects in the state.
Sani noted that the appointment of the Director General has strengthened the DSS's ability to confront the nation’s security issues.
His commendation coincided with the DSS Kaduna State Command conducting 34 successful operations in the state, leading to the apprehension of 54 suspects, including active security personnel, and the seizing of a significant quantity of arms and ammunition.
Through the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), Sani expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the security agency.
He highlighted that the DSS operatives not only made arrests but also recovered numerous rifles, pump-action guns, and several thousand rounds of ammunition within the first quarter of 2025.
The Commissioner of Justice, addressing reporters after visiting the DSS Command Headquarters in Kaduna, also commended the agency under Ajayi’s leadership for its teamwork and close coordination with other security bodies.
He revealed that among those apprehended by DSS operatives during the period were: eight suspected bandits, 22 alleged informants, four gunrunners, two human traffickers, four cyber fraudsters, two vandals, and 12 relatives of suspected bandits.
“The arms and ammunition recovered consist of five AK-47 rifles, one GPMG, three RPG guns, and 5,000 rounds of ammunition of diverse calibres, while 79 kidnapping victims (now in the custody of the state government) were rescued by DSS operatives,” he stated.
Meanwhile, according to report gathered by Rocketparrot News is that among those detained was a security operative from Zamfara State, who admitted to stealing ammunition meant for combating bandits and selling it to them. At his arrest, he possessed 217 rounds of assorted ammunition he intended to sell for N4 million.
A suspected gunrunner, according to a security source, was caught with 500 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition he aimed to sell for ₦1.5 million to one Suleiman in the troubled Birnin Gwari region of Kaduna State.
Another suspect confessed that he was en route to Katsina State to deliver 1,087 rounds of ammunition when he was apprehended by DSS operatives.
His accomplice, arrested in Futua, Katsina State, mentioned he was to deliver 701 rounds of ammunition to Zamfara State.
In addition, DSS operatives in Delta State have confiscated over 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition during a covert operation in Asaba, the state capital.
They arrested a native serving in the British Army (identity withheld) who was allegedly responsible for procuring the weapons. The seizure and arrests have garnered praise from Ijaw communities in Egbema, Gbaramatu, Isaba, and Ogbe-Ijoh kingdoms in the Warri Federal Constituency, which urged the Presidency to probe the arms seizure, cautioning that such stockpiles could instigate conflict in Warri.
