The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims of the arrest of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore President, Bello Bodejo.
The DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, categorically stated on Tuesday night that Bodejo is not in the custody of the agency.
Afunanya however dismissed the widespread reports suggesting that Bodejo had been apprehended at the Miyetti Allah's office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The alleged arrest was reportedly linked to the establishment of a vigilante group known as the Nomad Vigilante Group.
Last week, the Fulani socio-cultural organization had unveiled the vigilante group in Nasarawa. Bodejo had stated that the purpose of the group was to assist security agencies in combating criminal activities in the north-central state.
Bodejo, in his earlier statements, had outlined solid plans to recruit up to 4,000 youths for the vigilante group, with ongoing profiling of interested individuals. The vigilante group consists of 1,144 Fulani youths selected from various communities in the 13 LGAs of the state.
Clarifying the situation, Afunanya's statement indicated that Bodejo's association with the vigilante group was not a basis for his arrest. He emphasized that Bodejo is not under the custody of the DSS and quashed the speculations surrounding the alleged detention.
