Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was abruptly detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) late Friday after being suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
Many people were not surprised by President Tinubu's decision to dismiss Emefiele because the controversial CBN governor has received much criticism for allegedly mismanaging the country's monetary policy.
His suspension, according to a statement announcing it, was made in response to "ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy."
Emefiele's suspension is effective right away, according to Willie Bassey, the director of information at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The DSS moved quickly to arrest Emefiele after the suspension, purportedly so that he could be questioned.
