Don’t Approve Emefiele's Study Leave- Governor Matawalle Tells Buhari

POSTED ON May 16, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Akinbohun Samuel •   VIEWS 51

The alleged study leave given to Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been resisted by Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.

Rumor has it that the President granted the CBN governor's request to proceed on study leave.

According to Matawalle, who responded to the story, Emefiele does not deserve to take such a leave of absence because of his monetary strategy, which he called "a disastrous naira swap policy that subjected Nigerians to untold hardship."

The governor of Zamfara state said that Buhari should be frowning at any effort by anybody wanting to harm the wonderful work he has done. The governor of Zamfara state urged on Buhari to forfeit the leave in order to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. Emefiele must provide a report on his term before leaving the country, according to Matawalle.

He stated:

"President Buhari and his wife Aisha Buhari have acted in good faith and demonstrated their desire for a smooth, orderly, and peaceful transition of power to the new administration.

"They are eager to make sure the new government begins quickly, without any obstacles, and in a way that is in the best interests of our nation. President Buhari and his wife are doing honorably by doing this, and I applaud them for it.

"However, other government employees have behaved differently. They appear to be trying to make things difficult for the new government by their actions. It should not be permitted by President Buhari. Any attempt to undermine the excellent work he has done should make him grimace.

"I want to implore President Buhari right here and right now to deny any officer who is essential to the launch of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's forthcoming administration any study leave or other type of leave.

"In the interest of a smooth transition of power, accountability, and good governance, the President should revoke the leave if it has been authorized, as reported in the media.

"CBN Governor Emefiele oversaw the administration of the nation's monetary and financial systems. He is responsible for the recent disastrous naira swap policy, also known as the naira confiscation scheme, which caused tremendous suffering and agony for Nigerians as well as a decline in our economy.

"Two of my brother-governors and I fought tenaciously till we won a reprieve for our people from Emefiele and company over this ill-advised policy from the Federal Government.

"This same Emefiele now requests to go on study leave with only around 10 months left in his tenure, ostensibly in an effort to avoid having to evade rendering accounts. This is unacceptable.

"President Buhari ought not to support this. Emefiele has to continue working so that he can fully account for all that happened while he was in charge to the next government. Given that he still has a few months remaining in his term, he must respond to whatever inquiries the next administration may have.

"Although I wouldn't want to reveal their names here, I am aware that certain members of the departing administration are making preparations to covertly leave the nation at this crucial moment when they are needed to provide answers.

"President Buhari ought not to pay attention to their extravagant and unpatriotic scheme. These strategies are perilous and terrible.

"They unequivocally demonstrate that these police are hiding something. This needs to stop right away. It is not in the interests of accountability, openness, or anti-corruption to devise any scheme to avoid submitting accounting."
