Sean 'Diddy' Combs's mother, Janice Combs, has broken the silence on her son's arrest over allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, saying Diddy is not a monster.
In a statement issued by her lawyer, Natalie G. Figger, Janice defended her son, saying, "He made mistakes in the past; as we all have, he is not the monster they have painted him to be."
She said, "It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies. My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise."
Janice added, "Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed."
In her statement, she also mentioned Diddy's troubled relationship with his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, which she claimed was rife with abuse.
The rapper had vehemently rejected the charge until the press obtained old footage of him abusing her in a hotel.
"This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt," she wrote.
"It is truly agonizing to watch the world turn against my son so quickly and easily over lies and misconceptions, without ever hearing his side or allowing him to present his side," she said, adding that she believed some of his accusers were motivated by money.
The rapper was caught on Monday, September 17, 2024, at the Park Hyatt Hotel on 57th Street in Manhattan and detained by Homeland Security Investigators.
He was immediately placed on suicide watch, then removed and permitted to have visits from family members.
