Hip Hop mogul Sean Combs professionally known as Diddy has been arrested in New York City.
The rapper was detained on Monday, September 16, at the Park Hyatt Hotel on 57th Street in Manhattan, and taken into prison by Homeland Security Investigations at 8:15 p.m. after being indicted by a grand jury.
The indictment is sealed, and the accusations have not been released, but Mr. Combs' lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, said he believed he is being charged with racketeering and s3x trafficking.
He issued a statement saying, “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr Combs by the US Attorney’s Office.”
He added that Combs had gone to New York last week in anticipation of the charges being brought against him.
“He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal,” Agnifilo said.
On March 25, Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted simultaneous search warrants and raids on Combs' houses in Los Angeles and Miami, revealing the federal investigation on him.
His arrest comes after a slew of lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault, as well as an ongoing federal probe.
Last November, Cassie, his former protege and girlfriend, became the first of several people to sue him for sexual abuse.
Cassie filed a lawsuit in November, alleging years of abuse, including beatings and rape.
Her suit also said Combs engaged in s3x trafficking by "requiring her to engage in forced s3xual acts in multiple jurisdictions" and by "harboring and transportation of plaintiff for purposes of sex induced by force, fraud, or coercion."
The suit was settled, but Combs later apologized for his behavior after a video appearing to show him punching and kicking Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel hallway on 5 March 2016 was obtained by CNN.
