36 Nigerian troops including soldiers were killed during the Niger ambush.
The Defence Headquater of the Nigerian military confirmed that the troops were killed in an ambush by suspected bandits in Niger state on Thursday.
According to the Director, Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the troops were on patrol in the Shiroro area of the state when they were attacked.
Maj. Gen. Edward Buba disclosed this during a briefing with Journalist on Thursday in Abuja.
The military said that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft that was deployed to evacuate the wounded soldiers crashed shortly after takeoff.
Fourteen of the wounded soldiers, as well as two pilots and two crew members, were killed in the crash.
The military has not yet released the names of the deceased.
