ABUJA, Nigeria - Defence chief Christopher Musa asserts that the recent successful missions against terrorists and bandits in Borno and Katsina showcase the Nigerian Air Force's effectiveness.
Musa made this statement during the NAF Headquarters 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities, which took place at the NAF Base Parade Ground in Abuja on Saturday.
The defence chief emphasized that the NAF has been a vital element in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism efforts across various operational theatres.
He praised NAF personnel for their resilience, determination, and professionalism in ensuring that the military effectively addresses all threats to the state.
“The recent successful missions, including those in Kukawa, Borno State, and the collaborative operations in Katsina against notorious bandit leaders, illustrate the NAF's effectiveness.
“These operations have considerably diminished the operational capabilities of these adversaries, restricting their ability to target our vulnerable communities.
“Such accomplishments highlight the air force’s crucial role in our national security strategy and showcase the bravery and professionalism of our airmen and airwomen. The changing nature of these threats, ranging from traditional insurgency to kidnappings and banditry, presents new challenges,” he stated.
The defence chief reassured all Nigerians that the armed forces, in partnership with other security agencies, are fully equipped to confront and neutralize all threats.
He mentioned that comprehensive plans have been established, and the results are already becoming evident.
He noted that the recent elimination of key terrorist figures and the dismantling of their operational networks have significantly contributed to restoring peace and security throughout the nation.
Musa acknowledged that the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu has been crucial to the successes achieved by the military thus far.
He remarked that the 2024 BASA serves as a testament to the richness of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and the unity it promotes among the populace, emphasizing that it celebrates tradition and the spirit of togetherness that unites the nation.
He stated that such cultural festivities reinforce the collective commitment to fostering national unity and cultural pride.
The chief of the air staff, Hassan Abubakar, noted that the event has its origins in the colonial period, and has since evolved into a cherished military tradition and a highly anticipated annual occasion.
Abubakar added that BASA is a deeply significant event that pays tribute to the nation’s cultural heritage and identity as a people.
