The Dangote Petroleum Refinery received its fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude oil, sourced from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited. The $20 billion refinery, touted as the world's largest single-train refinery, anticipates the arrival of its fifth crude oil shipment in the near future.
According to a statement from the company, the latest one million barrels constitute the fourth consignment out of the six million barrels expected to be delivered to the Dangote facility. Officials confirmed that the refinery is gearing up to commence the production of refined products, including Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and aviation fuel or JetA1, within this month.
Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, previously informed reporters at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, that the refinery aimed to receive a total of four million crude oil shipments by the end of 2023. He further detailed that the remaining two shipments were scheduled for early January 2024, positioning the refinery for the commencement of production.
Once the entire six million barrels are delivered, the refinery will undergo its initial run, leading to the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), followed by the production of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol). With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery is poised to meet 100% of Nigeria's refined petroleum product requirements, including petrol, diesel, kerosene, and jet fuel, with surplus products earmarked for export.
The refinery boasts a self-sufficient marine facility capable of handling the largest vessels globally, facilitating the seamless receipt of crude oil shipments. Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, expressed delight at the milestone, emphasizing the refinery's significance for the country and outlining plans to ramp up production to full capacity in the coming months.
